After the successful release of three seasons of Avatar: The Last Airbender (Legend of Aang), Nickelodeon announced that there will be a new spinoff series next year (2011). It is not yet official but the Avatar creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino said that the working title is “Avatar: Legend of Korra.” The wonderful and funny life of Aang will be replaced by a more mature life of Korra.
The creators came up an idea of changing the sex of the protagonist because the creators wanted to try something different. The character, Korra, was partly inspired by Avatar Kyoshi of the original series which was a popular character with a lot of fans.
The new series takes place 70 years later after Aang died. Some would question why Aang died around age of 70, which is too young for an Avatar to die, the creators said that since Aang had been frozen in ice with Appa, for about 100 years, he kind of burned up some of extra Avatar time. Aang and Katara’s grandchild Korra will continue the legacy of an Avatar. Korra knows how to bend earth, water, and fire. Most likely, the story will focus on how she will be able to learn airbending and she will be guided by her father named Tenzin. Most probably since Aang is an airbender, Korra is a waterbender.
According to an interview made by Wall Street Journal, DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko said that the new series will still have the same sense of fun and adventure. It is not yet confirmed how many episodes it will have but most likely, it’ll depend a lot on the audience.
Other speculations: The complete information of the new Avatar series will be updated here soon. We just hope that Korra will be funny like Aang and the story should not be so serious. The creators cannot give the entire details of the next series so there are many speculations and rumors on what will happen next.

Wow cool I can’t wait to see it
wow wow wow, is this information for real, cause it kinda conflicts with the other info out there, like Korra being Tenzins daughter? (if i read that correctly)and Korra being the grandchild of Katara and Aang… i dunno
This sounds exciting but I’m confused by one thing. Does the sequence of Avatars are linked by relation? Korra is connected in lineage to Aang and Katara. I thought the cycle, according to the series, was kind of sequential from nation to nation…Did I miss something?
I wish they could have just made a spinoff of the series with the original characters. Mike and Bryan had a good thing going there and i’m kind of scared that Korra won’t be a very relateable character, therefore promoting the failure of this new Avatar show…oh well. I guess we’ll just have to trust the creators to make another awesome series and make up for what was lost when The Last Airbender hit theaters.
No. Korra’s not Aang and Katara’s grandchild. She WAS born in the Southern Water Tribe, and she has to find Tenzin (a Kataang child) to learn airbending. As of now, M&B confirmed 12 episodes.
I really hope they come out with the new series, Avatar was and is awesome…
oh yea! I am so excited for this sequale! I’m expecting great things from these guys. They did an great job with The Last Airbender. I can’t wait to see how they play out this one!
WTF…hurry up and make it
come on, they NEED to make it soon, or they’re going to start losing fans. I just hope this is Mike and Bryan’s apology for the Last Airbender
I REALLY CAN’T WAIT!!!
This series is going to be great. I just wish that we hadn’t gotten to Korra’s story so far into her Avatar training. With an Avatar this advanced and knowledgeable in her bending…we can expect to be dealing with a young woman in her late teens or early twenties.
Also, I read somewhere else that there’s a force going around preaching anti-bending? I think that will make it interesting enough for viewers. I’m very intrigued as to what made people feel that bending was no longer a necessity.
That sounds like it has the potential to be a really good show but if it’s really short it might have some major holes in the story line like the movie…
i really dont want them to do this i mean it just seems kind of stupid..
It sounds pretty cool I will definitely watch it even though it probably won’t be as good as the original
Please please please let it make up for the movie!!
Hopefully its good, just have a feeling it wont be as awesome as the original though
Can’t wait…!!
“…depends on the audience”? Well I’m a die-hard Avatar freak and I know I wouldn’t miss an episode of the show for anything. Do you think Zuko or maybe even Azula will show up in the show. Aang and Zuko are the reason this show exists anyway, so maybe…?
It has the potential, yes. But the conflict of the plot will have to do exponentially with the past, most likely the child of Azula or some villianous organization sprouted by her.
The conflict of the story will have to rely exponentially on the past. This will most likely have a legacy from Azula. Though it can be a totally new enemy with it’s own original means.
