Irina Skvortsova’s mother, Galina Skvortsova, was interviewed by Rossiya 24 news channel and she said that her daughter is improving after undergoing crucial operations.
Her mother was very happy seeing her daughter responding from them. After the successful operation on Saturday to graft skin onto her right leg, Irina was able to recognized her mother and her brother. This is a good sign that Irina is recovering from the said tragic incident. She will be facing another surgery on Monday.
Irina Skvortsova, a 21-year old Russian bobsledder, was seriously injured during a European Cup training session in Konigssee, Germany on November 23, 2009. The Russian women’s team tipped over in the luge and stopped and was hit by the sled of the Russian men’s team. She was rushed to the hospital with multiple broken bones, and remained in an induced coma after the accident. Investigators said that the judges are held responsible in this accident for they did not close the track but the Russian Federation of Bobsleigh and Skeleton is still investigating further if the legal action should be brought to the judges or to the German Federation of Bobsleigh and Skeleton which is responsible for the racing track in Konigssee.
