A shark attacked a 37-year old Zimbabwean man named Lloyd Skinner yesterday afternoon at the Fish Hoek, False Bay in Cape Town, South Africa. Skinner, an engineer and marathon runner, was attacked by the shark, which is believed to be a great white, twice while he was standing chest-deep 100 metres from the shore and adjusting his goggles.
Many beachgoers have witnessed that incident and according to them, the shark is longer than a mini-bus. One of the witnesses, Gregg Coppen, described it as “dinosaur-sized” shark. He posted on his Twitter that after the attack he saw a pool of blood in the water.
There were several reports that Skinner’s body parts are scattered in the water but the rescue team only found his goggles. Ian Klopper of the National Sea Rescue Institute said they don’t really expect that they will still see the body because the shark didn’t just bite him but it devour his whole body.
Cape town officials said that it is the second deadly shark attack in the area in less than a month. This incident prompted the officials to close the beaches along Cape Town’s False Bay coastline.
