Former Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos’s corpse was stolen by unknown grave robbers at the Deftera Village Cemetery. Papadopoulos served as President of the Republic of Cyprus from February 28, 2003 to February 28, 2008 and he was the second President of the House of Representatives in 1976.
One of the security guards of Papadopoulos discovered that it was stolen after he found piles of earth by the graveside and an empty casket in Friday morning.
Cyprus current President Dimitris Christofias who beat Papadopoulos in 2008 election said that it is an unholy, unethical, and immoral act. He also told the Cypriots to remain calm amidst this disturbing incident.
Police investigated the grave of Papadopoulos and they have detained three men for questioning but released them after the interrrogation. According to them, the perpetrators were thought to have worked overnight. There were no other specific details regarding the suspects. Police didn’t give any further details about it.
