Air France A380 made a U-turn 90 minutes after takeoff from New York and landed at New York’s John F. Kennedy International airport at 10:17 PM ET on November 27, Friday.
Air France spokesman said that there is a minor incident that’s why they were forced to turned back to New York. He said that there is some kind of computer glitch that made the navigation a little imprecise so they have no choice but to go back and repair it. They also said that don’t have any problem with the aircraft’s manufacturer. But they refused to give further details about the specific technical problem.
This airbus, the world’s largest passenger plane, was carrying over 500 people. No injuries reported and all passengers safely landed on the said airport. After three hours of repair, it took off again.
This was not the first time that an A380 turned back due to technical problem. An Airbus A380 of Singapore Airlines had to turn back on September 27, 2009 and land at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle due to a major engine problem. No injuries have been reported in this incident.
