Five suicide car bombings hit government buildings on Tuesday morning, in Iraq’s capital city, Baghdad that killed 127 and wounded 448 people. The first blast hit Sunni District of Dora in Southern Baghdad. Other car bombs exploded near Iraq’s Ministry of Finance building near al-Qashla Square, court complex near the Iraqi-protected Green Zone ,and near the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs building.
Aside from civilians, some security force personnel were among the casulaties but their names are not yet released.
Iraqi National Security Advisor Dr Mowaffak Baqer al-Rubaie blamed Al-Qaeda militants for the Baghdad car bombings. He said that the militants wants to show that their attacks can weakened the country’s economic and social stability.
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Kamil Mohammed Hasan al-Maliki supports Dr. Mowaffak al-Rubaie statements and have added that the militants aim is to undermine the upcoming elections which will be held on March. 6, 2010.
The government said that the security has been heightened ahead of the parliamentary elections to prevent this tragic incident from happening again.
